What's that thing?

faces

Just some sketches of faces to tide the blog over after slacking off for a while. I particularly like the guy on the right.

I will be back soon with more art and some prose too.

Blogroll added

So I finally got around to starting a blogroll. This was occasioned by two of my pals starting their own blogs in the last week or so. Gar Bailey's blog is home to whatever mutant strain of culture happens to be currently incubating in his fevered and fertile imagination, and David Cope's blog is much like his relentlessly strange and original standup comedy: hilarious.

Check em out, friends. And if you have any recommendations for other sites to add to my blogroll, drop em in the comments.

Comedy This Friday

This Friday, (July 27th) I'll be performing at Derek Sheen's monthly comedy show at the Mars Bar, Making Strangers Laugh. Personally, I don't care whether you come or not, but I am worried that once you realize what you've missed out on, you'll never forgive yourself, and life will become an unrelenting nightmare of sadness and regret from which you can never awake.

Come join the fun!

Sweet Remains

The lovely, talented, and vivacious Diana Falchuk has an art show at Crawl Space Gallery that closes this weekend. If you don't check it out between noon and 5 this Saturday/Sunday, you'll be missing an opportunity to have your optical neurons tickled by some of the most beguiling and inventive sculptural works you're likely to see in a Seattle art gallery this year. Check out what the Stranger's Jen Graves has to say about it here.

Diana (full disclosure: she's my girlfriend) takes old bits of organic matter, scraps of fabric, and other detritus, and works them into tiny hybrids and conglomerations that defy description. I've spent some time at Crawl Space while the show is running and I have to say, this is the type of work makes people stop and scrutinize and invent little narratives for each of the pieces and generally just leave the gallery all stimulated and bemused. Check It Out, Folks.

Brett Comix on Rivet Blog

Neat! I've got a couple of comics posted over at the Rivet Magazine blog. Rivet is an arts & culture magazine published right here in Seattle and edited by Whole New Drag friend Leah Baltus.

(p.s. According to Rivetblog commenter and Republican comedy expert Brian, the image of a fetal Dick Cheney chewing thru the womb of his host-mother and feasting on rabbit entrails just isn't "over-the-top" enough.)

Banana Hammock

Here's how I'll be spending July 10th, my 32nd birthday: performing onstage at the ReBar alongside some of Seattle's most shit-hot comedians at Owen Straw's Banana Hammock!

Didja Know?

It's true: about 99.97% of all webcomics are just terrible. For every one Achewood, there's about 1000 creepy manga fanboy webcomics about furry transgendered orc-rape. Now, the thing is, I probably wouldn't have ever realized how entertaining this utterly repellent drivel could be if it weren't for someone starting a blog with the express purpose of ridiculing said webcomics. If you're into that sort of thing, go check out Your Webcomic Is Bad and You Should Feel Bad.

Sean Ottey Speaks

This is Number Two in a series of guest comics by Seattle standup comedy luminaries. This one is by a WholeNewDrag friend and favorite, Sean Ottey. (Sidenote: I will be performing with Sean at Dave's Tavern in Milton, WA on Saturday night. If you're in the area of Milton and happen to be out on bail, come see us!)

Comedy Show Fri 29th

For my Seattle friends:

I will be performing at the Faire Gallery Cafe FRIDAY JUNE 29th. It's on Capitol Hill, near the Olive off-ramp.

I'll be joined by your host for the evening, Blue from Harlem, along with the enigmatic Carrington, the amazing Aziza Diaz, the explosive Derek Sheen, the irrepressible Andy Haynes, and the inimitable Owen Straw. It's a pants-crappingly hilarious cavalcade of funny comics, folks.

Netflix

Seattle Standup

Here's my pal Sean Ottey's website. He's a funny guy and he posts alot about local comedy shows, being sure to make it sound like we kill packed houses, night after night. It's hard work, folks.

Another Recc

Towering above the vast wasteland of drivel that is the Internet, there stands one webcomic, mighty and imposing on the horizon, a beacon of pure and delirious hilarity. If you are a person who values mirth and you have not yet read this webcomic, rend your garments, o ye people, for you are about to be introduced to one of my favorite things:

Achewood.

Good webcomix

I've really been enjoying this guy's work lately:

Dept. of Batshit Crazy Racists

I found this on a telephone pole near my house on Wallingford Ave. What is this, Alabama 1963? p.s. the website advertised is truly nutcakes.
